Therapy with Dr. Emily Jamea
Frequently Asked Questions
Dr. Emily offers both therapy and coaching services. Therapy and coaching both support personal growth, but they serve different purposes. Therapy is a clinical service that focuses on healing emotional wounds and resolving mental health challenges. It is regulated by state law, so I can only provide therapy to clients who reside in Texas, where I am licensed. Coaching, on the other hand, is available to individuals and couples anywhere in the world who want to enhance their relationships, deepen intimacy, and cultivate greater passion, confidence, and fulfillment in their personal lives.
You have the option of scheduling weekly therapy sessions or intensives (see next FAQ). For those wanting weekly sessions, I encourage an initial 90-minute session. Couples usually benefit from 90-minute follow-up visits, while individuals typically do fine with 45-minute follow-ups.
If you are coming in for an issue related to your relationship, I strongly recommend bringing your partner. Whether or not you think your partner has contributed to the problem, your prognosis is strongest when you both contribute to the solution. Every person is given the opportunity for one-on-one time to share thoughts, feelings, or details from your past that you might not want to share in your partner's presence.
What is an intensive? An intensive is a one-time (or two-time) 4-hour therapy session followed by 1-2 shorter (optional) follow-up sessions.
What are the benefits? The length of time allows us to get to the root of the issue more quickly. This means I can more effectively make suggestions that will help you reach your goals. Intensives are great for people who don't want the hassle of coming in for weekly appointments. Some people find it difficult to switch gears between weekly sessions and daily life. Scheduling an intensive circumvents this issue.
What are the drawbacks? The primary drawback is the lack of longer-term follow-up sessions. I always offer one or two follow-up sessions to those who have completed an intensive. Furthermore, intensives are not the ideal format for all issues (more below).
Who is a good candidate? Most people will benefit from an intensive. However, I do not suggest scheduling an intensive if you are in crisis or if there is active addiction, a history of significant trauma that you have not previously received treatment for, or immediately following an affair. I like to schedule a brief, 10-minute consult with all prospective clients before scheduling so that we can determine if an intensive is right for you.
What can I expect? I like to spend the first portion getting a better sense of the problem, hearing both perspectives, and making sure I am clear on your goals. The assessment portion may be done jointly or partly as a couple and partly as individuals. As the session progresses, we get deeper into the therapeutic work. I always offer a 5-10 minute break about half way through so everyone can stretch their legs, check messages, or run to the restroom. As the session is wrapping up, we reflect on what you've learned and I make suggestions for maintaining long-term progress.
What is the cost? The cost for a 4-hour intensive is $2,000. Follow-up sessions are $350 for 45 minutes or $700 for 90 minutes. Since I am reserving the day to meet with you, $1,000 is due at the time of scheduling. The remaining is charged one week prior to the session.
Can we meet virtually? In-person is best, but virtual is an option.
When can I schedule? Intensives are offered on Tuesdays from 9am to 1pm or 10am to 2pm.
What are others saying? A recent participant said,"I've seen 5 or 6 therapists over the past few years. No one has gotten as deep as you have. I am so thankful for this opportunity. "Another participant said,"You are extraordinary. I am beyond impressed."
How should I prepare? Some clients find it helpful to make a timeline of major life events, but this is not mandatory. If you are wanting an intensive for general emotional/sexual disconnect, I you may consider trying my online workshop first. The cost of the workshop is reimbursed for anyone who schedules and intensive.
Ready to schedule? Send an e-mail to emily@revivetherapy.com and give me some days/times that work well for a brief consult (mandatory before scheduling).
No. Only licensed physicians can prescribe medications. If I believe you need medication, I will refer you back to your primary care physician or make a specific recommendation for a medical doctor that I believe can treat you best.
Therapy is always confidential with some exceptions. If we believe you are at risk of harming yourself or someone else or if we suspect child abuse or neglect, we are required to notify the authorities. We abide by Chapter 611 in the Texas Health and Safety Code.
The number of therapy sessions depends on several factors. We will be able to give you a better idea after we have had a chance to meet. Factors that influence how long therapy lasts include the complexity of the problem, the length of time you’ve experienced the problem, and the amount of time you devote to working on the problem in between sessions, and, if in a relationship, your partner's support and participation in the therapeutic process. I generally advise people to plan for a minimum of 6 sessions. Many clients find benefit after just a few sessions while others require more long-term care. It is my goal to see you reach your goals as quickly as possible. I do not believe in dragging therapy out any longer than is absolutely necessary. In fact, if I feel you are not making progress with me, I will refer you to another treatment provider.
Clients are seen by appointment only. We do not accept walk-ins. You can make an appointment by calling the office at 832.301.9160.
I am not in-network with any insurance companies. We can provide you with a superbill every four sessions that you may submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. The amount you may be reimbursed depends on your policy. We recommend that you call your insurance company to find out exactly what they are willing to cover. For example, there may be differences for individual versus couple therapy. A package of four sessions with Emily is available after the first session. Emily's sessions are scheduled for 45 minutes.

- Single sessions (45 min): $350
- Four-hour intensives ($2,000)
- Session length depends on your need and schedule availability. Dr. Emily will discuss your options with you.
All you need to prepare for therapy is an open mind and willingness to grow. Some people find it helpful to bring a timeline of events or some general notes about the issue that brings them in. This is certainly not required though. If you think your issue may be physiological in nature, we recommend scheduling a visit with your primary care physician to rule that out first.
